Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is collaborating with Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in space science and technology, including joint satellite projects. Both parties are also keen to develop a sustained exchange programme on space research, according to a press release from NTU.
The collaboration will focus on research and education. This wide-ranging partnership with Asia’s first Space University in India will involve the Satellite Research Centre at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in NTU, the first university in Singapore to develop an undergraduate satellite programme. Covering space science and technology research and education, the tie-up paves the way for joint satellite projects and a sustained exchange programme in space research.
Student exchanges will begin in the new Academic Year starting in August 2018. The collaboration is supported under the NTU-India Connect initiative that enables undergraduate and graduate students from Indian universities and institutes of higher learning to pursue their research interest at NTU.
“Since 2011, NTU has launched seven communication satellites that are presently orbiting the Earth. These have been designed and built by our faculty, staff and students. Five of them were launched into space from India — by the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle,” said Professor Subra Suresh, President, NTU, during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the university on 1 June.
