RBC Signals, a ‘Global Ground Station Network’ that aggregates the unused capacity of existing satellite ground stations around the world, and ODYSSEUS Space today announced a collaboration to enhance RBC Signals’ global ground infrastructure network, coverage and capabilities, according to an RBC press release.
As part of the agreement, ODYSSEUS Space will make available to RBC Signals, and its commercial satellite operator customers, the excess capacity of four of Taiwan National Space Agency (NSPO) key ground station antennas. Situated in various locations across Taiwan, the antennas will expand RBC Signals’ coverage capabilities in the Southeast Asian region.
“We are pleased to welcome the first ground stations from Taiwan into the RBC Signals global ground station network,” said Christopher Richins, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of RBC Signals. “These high-quality systems will provide valuable multi-mission capability for the region. We look forward to introducing our operator customers to this powerful set of antennas.”
RBC Signals combines the excess capacity of existing ground stations with RBC-owned stations located strategically across the globe to provide “real-time, low latency data delivery and data processing capabilities”. The company is “the first provider in the space communications sector using a shared economy business model to enhance both service and affordability for commercial operators with satellite constellations in low earth orbit”.
Based in Tainan, Taiwan and established in April 2016, ODYSSEUS Space was formed by “international space experts” with complementary backgrounds from space agencies, space industry and space research laboratories. The company “provides support at all phases, from feasibility studies to space operations, for space activities in Asia and worldwide, with a focus on small satellites and related deep space and swarm solutions”.
“Taiwan has a lot to offer in terms of space facilities, infrastructures and expertise, and this obviously includes NSPO X- and S-band ground stations,” said Julien Hennequin, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of ODYSSEUS Space. “We believe that RBC Signals’ extensive experience in mission operations will help us to find customers who are interested in Taiwan’s unique geographical location and assets, and to include Taiwan in the network of new space countries.”
The RBC Signals global ground station network currently includes more than 62 antennas in over 41 locations worldwide.
